It’s holiday-home heaven around here, so you can expect all the suburban comforts you could want, including shops, bars, places to eat, and a couple of nice parks too. But there’s still a distinctly Spanish feel to the town, where quaint squares are decked out with ornate lampposts, and old locals natter over coffee.
About 20 minutes uphill from the coast, you’ll see an even more authentic side to things in the Old Town – or Mijas Pueblo. This dainty village paints a very pretty picture along its steep, winding streets packed with hanging baskets and little churches. Thanks to gift shops galore, it’s a great place to stock up on souvenirs too.
The Costa del Sol is famous for golf, so it’s no surprise this area has its fair share. In fact, there are a whopping nine golf courses in the Mijas region. Mijas Golf International has two celebrated 18-hole greens, while La Cala has three championship courses, which have played host to top tournaments.
